Republican Ryan Fazio won a special election to fill a vacant seat in the Connecticut state Senate, marking the first state legislative seat to flip parties since Joe Biden took office.
Fazio flipped a state Senate seat in a district that Biden won by more than 25 percent last November.
Dee Duncan, president of the Republican State Leadership Committee, said it was “the first flip of a state legislative seat in a special election by either party in 2021.”
“Congratulations to Ryan Fazio on running a strong campaign,” he wrote in an email, according to Breitbart. “His victory demonstrates that the people of Connecticut are sick and tired of the radical tax and spend agenda coming from Democrats in Hartford and in Washington, D.C.”
“With Democrats controlling Washington, it’s more important than ever that we have strong Republican leadership in the states. Tonight’s result is further evidence that Republicans are on offense this cycle,” Duncan added.
Connecticut Senate Minority Leader Kevin Kelly welcomed Fazio to the chamber in a statement.
“His successful election shows that the Connecticut Republicans’ better way is resonating with young people who want to make our state a better place. The next generation is standing up as Republicans, and as candidates, and they are not afraid to make their voices heard and advocate for change,” Kelly said.
Republicans have been performing very well in recent elections.
Mike Carey, a coal lobbyist backed by Donald Trump, won a U.S. House seat.
Carey beat several Republicans to win the open House seat in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District.
“Great Republican win for Mike Carey. Big numbers! Thank you to Ohio and all of our wonderful American patriots. Congratulations to Mike and his family. He will never let you down,” Trump said after Carey was declared the winner on Tuesday night.
Prior to that, Republican Jake Ellzey of Texas won a U.S. House seat.
The mainstream media tried to use the election results to attack Donald Trump.
Trump endorsed Republican Susan Wright, the widow of the late Rep. Ron Wright, in the special congressional election runoff near Dallas.
Even though Susan Wright lost the special election, a pro-Trump conservative still won the U.S. House seat and it will stay in Republican hands.
Ellzey carried more than 53% of the vote in Texas’ 6th Congressional District when several outlets called the race late on Tuesday night.
Ellzey is a Republican state legislator in Texas, so now he will serve in the U.S. House.
The seat opened up following the death of GOP Rep. Ron Wright, so naturally, Trump endorsed his wife for the seat.
Republicans also secured a huge win late last month in a Georgia special election held for a seat in the Georgia House of Representatives.
In a poll shift that greatly upset Democrats, Republican Devan Seabaugh won a decisive victory against Democrat Priscilla Smith in a crushing result of 26 percentage points, 63% to 37%.
Republicans need a net gain of 5 seats to regain the House majority in the midterms next November.
Republicans set a fundraising record for the third month in a row and now have $42.1 million in cash on hand with zero dollars in debt.
House Republicans also have history on their side as they aim to regain the chamber.
The party that controls the White House, which is currently the Democrats, on average loses roughly 25 House seats in the midterm elections.
And the once-in-a-decade redistricting process – pegged to the 2020 census – is expected to generally favor Republicans over Democrats.
