A lifelong Republican and former elected official in Georgia announced this week he is hopping on Vice President Kamala Harris’ bandwagon after President Joe Biden dropped his reelection bid and endorsed her.
“I’m committed to beating Donald Trump. The only vehicle left for me to do that with is the Democratic Party. If that requires me to vote for, speak for, or endorse Kamala Harris then count me in,” Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan wrote on the X platform.
Duncan was in office during the 2020 election and rejected Trump’s claims of fraud in Georgia. “The mountains of misinformation are not helping the process; they are only hurting it,” Duncan told CNN in December 2020. “I voted for President Trump. I campaigned for him. And, unfortunately, he did not win the state of Georgia.”
During an appearance on a local Georgia program this week, Duncan said that Harris will have to focus on winning independents and undecideds in the Peach State if she is going to have any shot at winning the state.
“If Donald Trump wins the hearts and minds of the majority of the 10 percent in the middle and Kamala Harris doesn’t, then he’s going to be the next president,” Duncan said. “And then we’ve got real issues on our hands as Republicans.”
In May, Duncan unequivocally stated in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution opinion piece that he would be casting his vote for Biden in November, urging other Republican figures to also reject Trump.
“Unlike Trump, I’ve belonged to the GOP my entire life. This November, I am voting for a decent person I disagree with on policy over a criminal defendant without a moral compass,” Duncan said. “The GOP will never rebuild until we move on from the Trump era, leaving conservative (but not angry) Republicans like me no choice but to pull the lever for Biden.”
Biden has also been accused of many unsavory things, including corruption and sexually assaulting a former Senate staffer. Also, his own daughter, Ashley, wrote in her diary that he used to shower with her up to a certain age, writing it was “probably not appropriate” for him to have done so.
For his part, Trump has been convicted on 34 felony counts in New York in relation to a ‘hush money’ payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election. The case was brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg after he initially decided not to pursue it, along with his Democratic predecessor, the Southern District of New York, and the Federal Election Commission.
Meanwhile, a House Republican has introduced articles of impeachment against Harris after President Joe Biden agreed this week to end his reelection bid and endorsed her to become the party’s nominee ahead of the November election.
Screenshots of the resolution filed by Rep. Anthony Ogles (R-Tenn.) were posted to the X platform by POLITICO’s Olivia Beavers. They accuse Harris of “high crimes and misdemeanors” in response to her handling of the migrant crisis as “border czar” and for allegedly misleading the American people about Biden’s physical and cognitive decline.
“Time and again, Kamala Harris has refused to uphold her oath to the U.S. Constitution, and she must be impeached,” Ogles told The Daily Caller. “Her breathtaking incompetence as Border Czar has allowed a crisis of drugs, rape, and murder to flood the streets of America.”
He also said she “knowingly breached the public’s trust by failing to invoke the 25th Amendment after it became clear that Joe Biden was mentally and physically unfit to serve as president,” and declared “immediate action must be taken.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), the third-ranking House Republican, introduced a resolution that would have the GOP-led House condemn Harris for her failure as the Biden administration’s “border czar” to resolve the migrant crisis.
