Some Republican lawmakers are demonstrating renewed concerns about President Joe Biden’s mental status.

After the president appeared to call out to Rep. Jackie Walorski, who was killed in a motor vehicle accident in late August, during a Wednesday event, GOP lawmakers have repeated earlier demands that Biden is given a cognitive test to measure mental function.

“And I want to thank all of you here, including bipartisan elected officials like Representative McGovern, Senator Braun, Senator Booker, Representative — Jackie, are you here? Where’s Jackie? I didn’t think she was — she wasn’t going to be here — to help make this a reality. And thanks to Senator Stabenow, Representative DeLauro for their leadership,” Biden said.

The incident led Republicans to respond.

“Joe Biden’s diminished capacity is so blatantly obvious that even the White House Press corps couldn’t hide their concern,” Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas said. “That’s how you know it’s bad.”

“In yet another pathetic display of incompetence, Joe Biden not only thought my departed colleague was alive, but he also had his puppet-master, Karine Jean-Pierre, deny he was confused,” Rep. Ronnie Jackson (R-Texas), a former White House physician who has routinely called on Biden to take a cognitive test, added, according to Fox News.

“It doesn’t take a neurologist to realize he’s in serious cognitive decline,” he added. “The American people know what’s going on here, and they don’t think the Commander-in-Chief is capable of doing his job.

“It’s past time for White House staff and the liberal media to stop shielding him from questions about his mental acuity and demand he answers my call for a cognitive test,” he continued.

Rep. Greg Murphy, R-N.C., a still-practicing surgeon as well as the GOP Doctors Caucus vice chairman, told Fox News Digital these “kinds of senseless gaffes have become par for the course for this president” while blasting the White House for their “cover-up” of Biden’s latest gaffe, the outlet reported.

“The American people can see that Mr. Biden’s mental acuity is certainly in question,” Murphy said. “What’s more disturbing to me, however, is the way in which this White House continues to deceive and misdirect the American people on a daily basis.

“It appears there is nothing the White House won’t do to cover up for a failed president and a failed administration,” Murphy added. “The American people clearly deserve better.”

Kyle Hupfer, the Indiana Republican Party chairman, noted in a statement following Biden’s mistake that it “calls too much into question.”

“No amount of spin from the White House can justify President Joe Biden forgetting the tragic passing of Jackie Walorski — the latest gaffe that calls so much into question,” Hupfer said.

“The American people deserve a straight answer, not a political talking point, as to how the President of the United States could forget that a congresswoman he was purportedly trying to honor had passed away just last month,” he continued.

“White House Spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre’s explanation is a disrespectful lie to Jackie’s constituents and the American people,” Hupfer added. “We deserve a real answer.”

During a press briefing, Jean-Pierre was repeatedly asked about the mistake.

“What happened in the hunger event today? The President appeared to look around the room for an audience member, a member of Congress who passed away last month.  He seemed to indicate she might be in the room.  What happened there?” a reporter asked.

“So the President was, as you all know — you guys were watching today’s event, a very important event on food insecurity. The President was naming the congressional champions on this issue and was acknowledging her incredible work. He had — he had already planned to welcome the congresswoman’s family to the White House on Friday. There will be a bill signing in her honor this coming Friday,” the press secretary said.

“So, of course, she was on his mind. She was of top of mind for the President. He looks — very much looks forward to discussing her remarkable legacy of public service with them when he sees her family this coming Friday,” she said.

“He said, ‘Jackie, are you here? Where’s Jackie? She must not be here,’” the reporter said.

“No, I totally understand. I just — I just explained she was on top of mind. You know, this wasn’t — what we were able to witness today and what the President was able to lift up in this — at this conference at this event was how her — her focus on wanting to deal with, combat food — food insecurity in America. And this is something that he was lifting up and honoring,” the press secretary said.
