Democrats continue to look for ways to restrict President Donald Trump’s role as commander-in-chief after he approved a decisive airstrike last month that killed Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani.
Soleimani played a critical role in killing thousands of American soldiers and innocent civilians over the years.
Soon after the airstrike, Democrats and their allies in the media immediately sided with Iran and claimed the president didn’t have the legal authority to “approve” the airstrike.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Senate voted to advance a War Powers Resolution, and a handful of Republicans voted with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Democrats on the measure.
The War Powers Resolution, which was introduced and passed by the Democratic-controlled House earlier this year, would limit Trump’s ability to use military action against Iran without approval from Congress.
The resolution passed by a vote of 51 to 45, with eight Republicans voting with Democrats.
As noted by The Daily Caller, below are the eight Republicans:
1. Utah Sen. Mike Lee
2. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul
3. Maine Sen. Susan Collins
4. Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander
5. Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy
6. Kansas Sen. Jerry Moran
7. Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski
8. Indiana Sen. Todd Young
While Trump has already declared that he will veto the bill, the issue is that 8 Republicans voted with Democrats to block the president from taking military action when he deems it necessary and/or warranted.
Republican opponents, including Trump, said passage would send the wrong message to Tehran.
“It is very important for our Country’s SECURITY that the United States Senate not vote for the Iran War Powers Resolution. We are doing very well with Iran and this is not the time to show weakness,” Trump said on Twitter.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the resolution abused the War Powers Act because that law was intended to prevent the deployment of thousands of troops into sustained combat without congressional authorization.
The resolution will more than likely be vetoed by the president.
This is the latest pathetic example of how far Democrats will go to obstruct the president.
The Democrats’ latest stunt comes after Trump approved drone strikes killed Soleimani and Popular Mobilization Forces leader Abu Mahdi al Muhandis outside Baghdad International Airport.
While Democrats and liberals are rushing to defend the Iranian scum — top military officials say Soleimani was planning “imminent attacks” on Americans that would have most likely killed hundreds.
The attacks would have been conducted on American facilities and workers in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon along with other countries in the region.
And it’s even worse that these 8 Republicans would join Schumer and Democrats in order to vote against the president.
