Sad news came from Washington D.C. this week when a top Democrat representative announced a tragic death in his family.

Democratic Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin issued a statement to announce the death of his 25-year-old son Thomas Bloom Raskin, a statement on his website said.

“With profound sorrow, Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) and Sarah Bloom Raskin today announced the loss of their son Thomas (Tommy) Bloom Raskin, 25, who was a second-year student at Harvard Law School and a graduate of Amherst College,” the statement said.

“Tommy was pure magic. His brilliance and compassion knew no bounds. He passionately loved his family, friends, and animals, and was devoted to the cause of the global poor.  We are devastated and demolished to be without him,” the family said.

“Tommy is survived by his beloved sisters Hannah and Tabitha, dozens of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and grandparents Arlene Bloom and Lynn Raskin. The family is grateful for the outpouring of support and love from neighbors, constituents, and friends but asks everyone to observe strict COVID-19 protocols during this time of grief. Funeral and memorial service arrangements will be released in due course,” it said.

Statements of grief and condolences came from the political world in statements on Twitter.

“My heart completely shatters for my dear friend @RepRaskin, Sarah, and their family in this devastating loss. Tommy was an incredible and brilliant beam of light. All our thoughts are with the Raskin family, and we pray for support to envelop them in this unimaginable time,” New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said.

“This is heartbreaking. Oh Jamie, I am so sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine the pain of losing a child. My heart goes out to you, Sarah and your daughters. Sending you love,” Rep. Rashida Tlaib said.

“So much heartbreak, but sending all my love @jamie_raskin, Sarah, Hannah, & Tabitha. I watched Tommy grow over the years & bring light to others. He’ll be sorely missed,” Maryland Delegate David Moon tweeted.

“The Crow family is heartbroken for @RepRaskin and his wife Sarah. We will keep the Raskin family in our thoughts and prayers during this terrible time,” Rep. Jason Crow said.

“Absolutely devastated to hear this. I am so deeply sorry, my friend. My heart is with you, Sarah, and your entire family tonight,” Rep. Gerry Connolly said in a tweet.

“I am so saddened by @RepRaskin & his wife’s loss. Rest In Peace, Tommy. And peace to the Raskin family,” Rep. Eric Swalwell said.

“The First Lady and I extend our deepest sympathies over this heartbreaking loss. I ask all Marylanders to keep the Raskin family in your prayers,” Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan tweeted.

“Our deepest condolences go out to Rep. Raskin and his family on their unimaginable loss. We ask everyone to pray for them during this tragic time,” House Republicans said in a statement on Twitter.

It is a tragedy when anyone dies and when they are as young as 25 it hits even harder. We at Conservative Brief and APSE Media offer the Congressman and his family our sincere condolences and prayers.
