Feds Arrest Head Of Black Disciples Gang, 23 Others In Chicago Accused Of Drug And Gun Trafficking

President Donald Trump is once again proving that he is the law and order candidate.

Trump has launched a new project called “Operation Legend” that puts Attorney General William Barr in charge of cleaning up crime-ridden cities using departments like the FBI, DEA, and the ATF.

According to CNN, federal authorities arrested 23 gang members in Chicago, including the leader of the Black Disciples on federal drug and gun trafficking charges.

The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois said the arrests came after a multiyear law enforcement investigation focused on the distribution of narcotics and guns in the city.

Federal prosecutor John Lausch said the government noted over 50 transactions in which the alleged gang members sold guns or drugs to people cooperating with law enforcement.

“The true test in all of our efforts… (is) what will we see with the number of shootings and the number of homicides in our city,” Lausch told reporters.

“It is one of the historic gangs in Chicago … one of the engrained gangs that have operated in the city for decades,” Lausch said.

Authorities also seized 24 firearms, more than a kilogram of heroin, about 1,350 grams of heroin laced with fentanyl, some 750 grams of fentanyl or fentanyl analogue, around 378 grams of crack cocaine, $52,595 in suspected illicit cash proceeds, and distribution quantities of suspected MDMA pills.

Lausch said the investigation preceded a US Justice Department effort known as Operation Legend, which has dispatched federal law enforcement to Chicago and other cities despite resistance from local officials.

“The arrests would have happened in the normal course whether or not Operation Legend had started,” he said.

Cities and communities across the country have been damaged and destroyed as some protests have turned into riots.

The protests and riots began in Minnesota after video emerged of a now-former Minneapolis police officer kneeling on George Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes, leading to his apparent death.

Last week, three NYPD officers were violently attacked by “protesters” and left with serious injuries during a “Defund the Police” rally.

Chicago, a city run by Democrats that has been violent and dangerous for many years, is also struggling with containing violence during protests.

Just this last weekend alone, a reported 70 people were shot in the city, with 10 dying from their fatal wounds.

Chicago police even released a video that appears to show a peaceful protest being “hijacked by organized mobs.”
