An attorney and spokeswoman for Donald Trump said on Sunday that she and the former president’s legal team expect another indictment, this one from a Georgia district attorney, within a few weeks, if not sooner.
Alina Habba told Fox News that she expects the indictment by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis within two to three weeks, though reports on Monday suggested it could come much sooner.
The ongoing inquiry leading to a potential fourth indictment against the former president stems from a phone conversation Trump had with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in January 2021. The call revolved around a dispute concerning the tabulation of votes, Newsmax noted.
“Are you expecting an indictment in the coming two or three weeks from Georgia?” Maria Bartiromo asked Habba on “Sunday Morning Futures.”
“Yes,” Habba answered. “I think that it’s been highly spoken about. I think if you look at the barricades, the fact that [Fulton County Democrat District Attorney Fani Willis] got her PR team doing fresh pictures for her, it’s a good indicator that Fani wants her moment. And she will … get on the bandwagon with the rest of the corrupt DAs and AGs that we have seen out of this country.”
Last week, Willis revealed that, based on her team’s efforts, they are prepared to move forward with an indictment. Habba remarked on Sunday that Trump’s remarks subsequent to his plea of not guilty to four federal charges connected to his alleged actions imply that he, too, is foreseeing the likelihood of a fourth indictment, as reported by The Hill.
“This is not America,” Habba told Bartiromo. “This is not how you fight your political opponents because you can’t win on issues and you can’t win on policies. Your borders are going to hell.
“We have drugs and pandemic,” she said. “I mean, it’s a mess. Our country is a mess. So what do they do? They arrest Trump over and over again to distract you from the corruption that’s happening inside the Biden administration and the policies that they can’t win on.”
Meanwhile, in downtown Atlanta, law-enforcement officers encircled the Fulton County courthouse on Monday, which was accompanied by road closures and the placement of traffic barriers, all in anticipation of a potential indictment of Trump, Reuters reported.
The outlet noted further:
Normally bustling streets outside the gray stone courthouse were largely empty, devoid of food trucks that normally serve breakfast and lunch to court workers, most of whom Willis had urged to work remotely as a grand jury decision loomed.
The front of the courthouse was lined with rows of orange plastic, water-filled Jersey barriers and steel crowd control barricades. Dozens of county sheriff’s deputies were stationed out front, and other deputies and Atlanta police drove marked cars in circles around the streets nearby.
“Our goal is to have all the services we normally have open and operational but at the same time create a safe environment for those that we actually service,” Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat told a press conference last week as his security measures began to be implemented.
“It is part of a protective plan,” he said.
Trump is currently the frontrunner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. His critics have contended that the rash of indictments is designed to keep him out of the race.
To that point, there are fears that Trump could win the nomination by next August, only to be convicted in one of several cases against him, thereby robbing the Republican field of a viable candidate to run against President Joe Biden.
The latest charges involving alleged actions linked to the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol Building. Special counsel Jack Smith brought them last week.
Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
