President-elect Donald Trump announced Friday night his decision to appoint Tammy Bruce, a longtime Fox News contributor, as the next spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State.
Bruce has been a prominent pro-Trump voice on the network, appearing both during the day and in primetime. Trump praised her political insight in a statement shared on his Truth Social account, congratulating her on the appointment and highlighting her expertise.
“It is my great honor to announce that Tammy Bruce will be joining our incredible Nominee for United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, as Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State,” Trump said in a statement.
“Tammy is a highly respected political analyst who understood the power and importance of ‘MAGA’ early on. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science at the University of Southern California and, after being a liberal activist in the 1990s, saw the lies and fraud of the Radical Left, and quickly became one of the strongest Conservative voices on Radio and Television,” he added.
“As one of the longest serving News Contributors, Tammy has brought TRUTH to the American People for over two decades. I know she will bring that same strength of conviction and fearless spirit to her new position as State Department Spokesperson,” Trump said, adding: “Congratulations Tammy!”
Fox News confirmed the news, adding that her contract with the outlet was canceled after the announcement.
A Fox News spokesperson said, “Tammy Bruce has been an extremely valued contributor at FOX News Media for nearly 20 years and we wish her all the best in her new role.”
Bruce, an accomplished author and former talk radio host, has been a regular presence on Fox News since 2005. She is set to succeed Matthew Miller as the State Department spokesperson, Mediaite reported.
As of 8:30 p.m. ET Friday, Bruce had not released a public statement regarding her appointment. However, earlier this week, she shared a photo with Donald Trump on her Instagram page, expressing admiration for her soon-to-be boss.
“So proud of this man,” she wrote. “For so many years he stood up to them, took everything they had, stayed standing FOR US, and PREVAILED. 2025 is just the beginning. There will be ups and downs, and we will continue to have to fight for our future, but it will be the beginning of a glorious return of our country.”
Trump has also tapped former Fox News host and U.S. Army combat veteran Pete Hegseth to be his secretary of defense.
In addition, Trump also named another now-former Fox News contributor to a post in his new administration, albeit in a very unconventional way.
Although Trump expressed being “pleased” to appoint Morgan Ortagus — a former Fox News contributor and State Department spokeswoman — as his Deputy Special Presidential Envoy for Middle East Peace, his announcement was notably accompanied by several pointed remarks.

“I am pleased to announce Morgan Ortagus as Deputy Special Presidential Envoy for Middle East Peace, to the Honorable Steven Witkoff. Early on Morgan fought me for three years, but hopefully has learned her lesson,” began Trump in a Truth Social post. “These things usually don’t work out, but she has strong Republican support, and I’m not doing this for me, I’m doing it for them. Let’s see what happens. She will hopefully be an asset to Steve, a great leader and talent, as we seek to bring calm and prosperity to a very troubled region. I expect great results, and soon!”
He added: “Ortagus has had experience in Diplomacy and National Security, and is an active U.S. Navy Reserve Intelligence Officer. From 2019-2021, Morgan served as Spokesperson at the Department of State (Pompeo!), where she was a member of my Historic Abraham Accords team that brought unprecedented Peace to the Middle East. Earlier, she worked at the Department of the Treasury as a financial intelligence analyst and, from 2010-2011, was the Deputy U.S. Treasury Attaché to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
Trump then wrote: “Good luck, Morgan!”
