The country is in a much better place than it otherwise could have been thanks to one policy former President Donald Trump followed while in office.
Conservatives around the country are hailing Trump for his decision to follow recommendations from The Federalist Society and other right-leaning groups in the selection of judges for the federal bench and the U.S. Supreme Court following a wave of rulings during the most recently-concluded SCOTUS session.
The praise comes amid high court rulings striking down Roe v. Wade last year and, more recently, decisions striking down race-based college admissions and others upholding religious, speech, and expression rights enshrined in the Constitution.
Judicial Crisis Network President Carrie Severino told Breitbart News recently that the current high court, with a 6-3 majority, is among the best in decades.
“This is the best Supreme Court in living memory, rolling back activist decisions like Roe v. Wade, enforcing Second Amendment rights, and striking down unconstitutional racial preferences,” Severino said.
“That’s thanks to a president who made it a priority to nominate principled originalists with the courage of their convictions and a Senate that was willing to fight for the confirmations of those nominees,” she added.
Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Commission Ken Blackwell agreed, telling the outlet, “Conservative and moderate justices alike agree that equal protection does not allow government school officials to treat some students better or worse than others solely because of their skin color.”
Continuing, he added, “This decision is a step closer to realizing Dr. King’s dream of instead judging people by the content of their character.”
Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) noted as well: “President Trump’s selection of three constitutional conservative justices was pivotal to the huge victories we are seeing now. “I strongly supported these justices as it was high time the Supreme Court moved from serving liberal whims as another legislative branch of government and instead started following the Constitution as our Founders intended.”
Trump ally Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) noted as well to Trump rallygoers last week: “This Supreme Court, ladies, and gentlemen, has made history, and you ought to be damn proud of it. This is the most conservative court in my lifetime because of Donald Trump. And I can promise you this, when it comes to Donald Trump, the best is yet to come.”
He also told the crowd: “And let me tell you what’s at stake. If they win in 2024, they’re going to pack the Supreme Court, so we need to get off our butts and make sure Donald Trump wins.”
Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who served as one of Trump’s press secretaries, appears to be following his formula when it comes to judicial appointments. She appointed Cody Hiland to the state Supreme Court on Monday, shifting it to the right for the first time.
That’s noteworthy because Arkansas was the last southern state to turn red; former Democratic President Bill Clinton was governor there in the late 1980s and early 1990s, as well as state attorney general.
“State Republicans last year elected the 51-year-old Hiland as chairman of the state party. From 2017 to 2020, he served as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas following his appointment by then-President Donald Trump,” the Western Journal reported. “Hiland also served as legal counsel for the Arkansas Department of Public Safety and prosecutor for the 20th Judicial District of Arkansas.”
He was also active in Sanders’ successful gubernatorial campaign when she became the state’s first female governor.
“Today, I appointed former prosecutor and U.S. attorney Cody Hiland to the Arkansas Supreme Court — marking the first time the Court will have a conservative majority,” the governor tweeted Monday.
“Cody brings decades of legal experience to the job — and I am confident he will serve our state well,” she said.
