Former President Donald Trump remains fed-up with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, calling the Kentucky Republican “a disaster.”
“We do have to do something about Mitch McConnell,” Trump said. “He’s a disaster. He gets his 10 guys, and they give [President Joe] Biden whatever they want. There’s something going on. That doesn’t make sense. They get whatever they want.”
“We got to get him the hell out,” he added. “He’s a problem, big problem. In the meantime, I hope he’s feeling well, but he’s a big problem.”
Trump’s comments come as McConnell has been working with President Joe Biden and Democratic lawmakers on bipartisan packages, including the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill from 2021 or the $1.7 trillion omnibus bill passed in December 2022.
In January, Trump called out “unnecessary turmoil” within the Republican Party and blamed McConnell.
After House Republicans had a week-long battle over electing GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy as speaker of the House, Trump wrote on his Truth Social account: “There is so much unnecessary turmoil in the Republican Party, in large part due to people like the Old Broken Crow, Mitch McConnell … who make it difficult for everyone else by constantly capitulating to Hopeless Joe Biden and the Democrats.”
McConnell came under fire this week for sitting back and not playing a role in helping secure a deal with a possible June 1 U.S. default date looming.
“Mitch McConnell has been Senate GOP leader for 16 years, with multiple bipartisan deals under his belt. Kevin McCarthy has led House Republicans for four years—and been speaker for just four months—with little history of reaching agreements with Democrats,” the Wall Street Journal reported.
“But headed into the hard-fought talks over the debt ceiling, they made a critical decision that would shape how Republicans would negotiate with the White House: McCarthy would be in charge,” the outlet added.
Earlier this year, McConnell returned to the upper chamber after being hospitalized for weeks due to a fall he suffered that left him with a severe concussion and potential serious brain damage.
“The Republican bigshot, 81, banged his brain in a terrible March 9 tumble at Washington D.C.’s Waldorf Astoria hotel — nearly four years after another serious fall forced him to have shoulder surgery,” RadarOnline reported.
After the fall, McConnell was admitted to the hospital where he spent six days receiving treatment. Following his discharge, he was transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility to receive care for a brain injury.
One medical expert told the outlet that can cause “loss of consciousness, convulsions, seizures, loss of coordination, slurred speech, agitation, and confusion.”
Trump made headlines this week with his response to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis filing the paperwork to run for president in 2024.
Trump responded to the news on Wednesday evening by trolling DeSantis on Truth Social with a series of posts, images of the recent polling, and even some opinions of social media users.
“I’d like to personally congratulate ‘Rob’ DeSanctimonious on finally announcing that he will be entering the race for President of the United States. Hopefully, he will get the full experience of being attacked by the Marxists, Communists, and Radical Left Lunatics of our Country, without which he will never know the kind of job he is doing. These Lowlifes & Misfits are far worse than the leaders of hostile foreign countries. They must be soundly defeated in order to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump posted.

“Ron DeSantis’ decision to announce his 2024 White House bid in a conversation with Elon Musk on Twitter on Wednesday will make a typically blunt statement about his campaign, the unruly populism of the modern Republican Party, and an accelerating conservative media revolution,” CNN’s Stephen Collinson wrote in an analysis Tuesday ahead of DeSantis’ launch.
