CNN Pundit Speculates: Trump Will ‘Dump Mike Pence,’ Pick Nikki Haley As Running Mate

Some in the media continue to speculate that President Donald Trump is planning to pick a new running mate for his 2020 ticket.

A few figures desperately want Americans to believe that Trump will select someone other than Vice President Mike Pence.

And one CNN pundit thinks the president has a “new” running mate in mind.

During a recent panel discussion, Paul Begala — who worked for President Bill Clinton — predicted that Trump is “gonna dump Mike Pence in favor of former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley” on July 16 when the Democratic nominee speaks at the convention.

Without any evidence whatsoever to support his claim, Begala said he “guaranteed” Trump will throw Pence “under the bus” because of his handling of the coronavirus, which the president tapped Pence to lead a task force on last week.

“This is not a prediction. It’s a certainty. On Thursday, July 16 — that’s the date the Democrat gives his or her acceptance address — on that day, to interrupt that narrative, Donald Trump will call a press conference at Mar-a-Lago. He’s going to dump Mike Pence and put Nikki Haley on the ticket to try to get those suburban moms,” Begala claimed.

“You watch. Guaranteed,” Begala said. “Trump put Pence in charge of coronavirus to throw him under the bus.”

This rumor has been going around for months.

And, of course, both Haley and Trump have gone on record to say there’s absolutely no truth to it.

Back in November, Trump called into Fox & Friends for an interview and made it clear that Pence will be his running mate in 2020.

Co-host Ainsley Earhardt brought up the rumor about Haley as a potential replacement for Pence.

The rumors took off a few months ago when Steve Schmidt, a self-described conservative on MSNBC, claimed Haley will “say anything” in order to be named as Trump’s running mate.

Then, Trump confirmed that Pence is no doubt the man and staying on the ticket.

“But you know what, Mike Pence is a great vice president. He’s our man, 100%,” Trump said.

“And Nikki will absolutely be involved. She’s a friend of mine, she endorsed me with the most beautiful endorsement you’ve ever heard. “She did a great job at the U.N.,” Trump said.

“But no, Mike Pence — I’ve seen this rumor that keeps popping up — and Nikki would be great, but Mike has done a phenomenal job as vice president,” Trump said. “He’s our guy, he’s my friend and, look, we have a great team. It’s been a very strong team.”

Haley has also publicly stated that she is not trying to be Trump’s running mate and that she supports Pence.

Haley tried knocking down false rumors last year about Pence’s place on the 2020 Republican ticket.

“Enough of the false rumors. Vice President Pence has been a dear friend of mine for years. He has been a loyal and trustworthy VP to the President. He has my complete support,” Haley said.

Trump sticking with Pence is not surprising.

The Trump-Pence ticket was very powerful in 2016, and Democrats should be very worried about how well the two Republicans will do together on the campaign trail together again in 2020.
