Several people who attended former President Donald Trump’s rally in Tucson, Ariz., on Sept. 12 have reported suffering from a mysterious eye condition in the days afterward.

As reported by Newsweek, after the rally, which drew more than 2,000 people, several people went to local emergency rooms to be treated.

The Trump campaign has stated that it is looking into the event. The Secret Service informed News 4 Tucson that it had not detected anything unusual at the rally and was unaware of any specific threat to Trump in Arizona.

The rally was organized with 48 special guests standing on stage with Trump, divided into two groups—one on stage right and one on stage left.

While the group on stage left reported no issues, several attendees from the stage right group left the rally experiencing severe eye pain, according to News 4 Tucson.

Mayra Rodriguez, a former Planned Parenthood director who is now a Trump supporter, told News 4 Tucson that her eyes were burning and her vision was impaired during the rally. She went to the ER, where doctors inquired if she had been sprayed with any substance.

Rodriguez reported that she continues to experience pain several days after the event. “I can’t see anything. When I try to open my eyes, it’s like a white cloud of cover. It hurts,” she said.

Another woman suffering from the same symptoms but who wished to remain anonymous said of her condition: “This is horrible.”

One man who attended the rally and who also requested anonymity told reporters, “My eyes were red like hell; it was terrible; I just couldn’t handle it.”

Kathleen Winn, a former Congressional candidate from Arizona’s Congressional District 6, spoke to News 4 Tucson after the event, She told the outlet: “We hope there’s no nefarious actors in this and this is not a strategic hit.”

Arizona has become a battleground state in recent election cycles. Currently, the average of polling has Trump leading their by a thin margin, Newsweek noted.

The incident at Trump’s rally is the latest potential threat to him and to his supporters who attend his events. In July, one attendee was killed and two others critically wounded while the former president himself was grazed in his right ear by a would-be assassin’s bullet during a rally in Butler, Pa.

On Sunday, the Secret Service disrupted what the FBI labeled another assassination attempt at Trump’s golf course in Palm Beach as he was playing a round with a business magnate.

This week, Trump was forced to cancel a campaign stop in Brooklyn, New York, after the unexpected passing of a local restaurant owner.

Trump’s presence at Gottlieb’s Restaurant was planned, and both local media and supporters had been looking forward to it. However, the visit was canceled due to the unexpected death of the restaurant’s owner, 75-year-old Sholem Yosef Gottlieb, according to police sources who spoke with PIX11 News.

Secret Service agents had examined the eatery earlier in the week to make sure it complied with security requirements for the Republican nominee’s visit. “It’s upsetting, community was looking [forward] to seeing him over here,” Moses Weiser, a friend of the Gottlieb family, told NBC New York.

The cancellation comes as Trump is holding onto his national lead despite a surge in Democratic enthusiasm following Vice President Kamala Harris’s entry into the race.
