Former President Donald Trump took another verbal potshot at President Joe Biden’s advanced age and what may Americans see as his declining cognitive state to pay an off-handed compliment of sorts to Vice President Kamala Harris.

In an interview with conservative lawyer, author, and broadcaster Hugh Hewitt, Trump said Harris would be a better president than Biden because no one could be worse than him.

At the same time, he predicted that a vote for Biden next year is really a vote for Harris, suggesting that he isn’t likely to serve out another four-year term.

“It seems like he’s locked into her for a lot of reasons. He has to choose her. I understand,” Trump told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. “It would seem like the Democrats, if he doesn’t run, have to run her. That’s what all of the professionals like you are saying. I’m not sure that that’s correct, but that’s what they’re saying. Yeah, you’re locked into her. And she might be, I can’t say worse. I think she’d be better than him, actually. I actually think that. I don’t think you can have worse than him.”

Trump’s remarks come as an increasing number of Democrats call on others to step up and challenge Biden for the nomination, and a majority of Democratic voters question his ability to serve another term.

“He is in a period of his life where passing and death is imminent,” Sharon Sweda, head of the Democratic Party in Lorain County in Ohio, told the Washington Post, adding that she often hears from voters worried about the president’s fragile condition.

“We are all on a ticking clock. But when you’re at his age or at Trump’s age, that clock is ticking a little faster, and that’s a concern for voters,” she continued, the Post noted.

Meanwhile, the former president continued to rip on Biden ahead of what looks like, for now, a 2024 rematch of their 2020 battle.

“We don’t think President Biden has given more than three long interviews. I’m about to ask you maybe 20, 30 questions. We think he’s given three long interviews this year to Conan O’Brien, Stephanie Ruhle, and Scott Pelley. What do you think that tells us about President Biden?” Hewitt asked.

“Well, he’s incompetent. And he was 25 years ago, too, if you look at his policies. But he’s grossly incompetent. He’s not fit for office. And I really think he’s a danger to democracy. I really believe that because of his incompetence,” Trump said, going on to discuss the Biden administration’s indictments against him.

“They’re all Biden trials. Yeah, but Hugh, yeah, people have to understand these are all Biden trials. These were all inspired by and pushed by DOJ. So this is somebody attacking a political opponent like never before. Every single trial is a Biden trial,” Trump said.

Hewitt then asked if Trump’s legal team is appealing the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to toss him off that state’s 2024 ballot, citing the insurrection clause of the 14th Amendment, though Trump hasn’t been charged with that crime, much less convicted of it.

“We’re in the process of doing it. Everybody thinks exactly what you’re saying. They’re trying to take the election away from the voters. And this is the same group, I guess it’s true. I’ve beaten them about 20 times. I beat them on emoluments. They sued me, they sue on anything,” Trump continued.

“It’s a group of radical left lunatics. And they sue any time they can, and this one is really a crazy one. And if they ever did that, it would be so bad for this country, you have no idea. And you understand it would be, it would be a big problem for the country,” he went on.
