The Biden family is back in the news this week and not in a flattering way.
Former Democratic fundraiser Lindy Li says Ashley Biden threatened to sue her after Li publicly alleged that Democratic officials and people close to former President Joe Biden concealed concerns about his condition during the 2024 presidential campaign.
Li, who previously raised money for Biden, former Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democrats, described the episode in her new book, “Unburdened,” and provided Fox News Digital with screenshots she said showed the since-deleted Instagram post from Biden’s daughter.
According to Li, Ashley Biden posted the message in February 2025 after Li began publicly discussing what she described as internal concerns surrounding her father’s age and ability to continue campaigning for a second term.
“They wanted to scare me. That was the goal,” Li told Fox News Digital.
Li has become an outspoken critic of her former party since the 2024 election and has alleged that senior Democrats failed to adequately address concerns about Biden before he ultimately ended his reelection campaign.
Ashley Biden strongly disputed Li’s allegations in the Instagram post and threatened legal action.
Li quoted the message in her book, describing its tone as so aggressive that it “bordered on parody.” Ashley Biden called Li a liar and asked whether she was “ready for a lawsuit,” according to screenshots Li provided to Fox News.
Li said the post disappeared approximately one day later. No lawsuit was ultimately filed.
She also questioned Ashley Biden’s statement in the post that she did not know Li. Li provided Fox News with photographs showing the two women together on multiple occasions and said the claim did not make sense to her.
“Doesn’t even pass the smell test,” Li said.
Li had extensive connections within Democratic fundraising circles before her break with the party. She worked with major donors and Democratic National Committee officials and helped raise money for both the Biden and Harris political operations.
According to Li, those relationships changed rapidly after she began publicly questioning whether Biden should remain the Democratic presidential nominee in 2024.
Li said she appeared on Fox News host Shannon Bream’s program on the same day Biden ultimately announced that he was ending his reelection campaign. She argued during the appearance that Biden should step aside.
“When I went on Shannon’s show to say Biden needs to step aside — and three hours later he did — my access immediately vanished and all my fears about speaking up were justified,” Li told Fox News.
Li said she had previously been invited to White House events as frequently as every few weeks but received no further invitations after speaking publicly about Biden.
She has characterized that change as retaliation for her criticism. Fox News reported Li’s account but did not independently establish that the loss of access was intended as punishment.
The former fundraiser also said she consulted attorneys after receiving Ashley Biden’s lawsuit threat.
According to Li, her lawyers did not believe a lawsuit was likely to materialize. She said one attorney suggested that litigation could potentially open the door to discovery involving internal discussions about the former president.
Li maintains that the statements she made about Biden and the Democratic Party were truthful and said she remains unaware of any specific statement that Ashley Biden believes would support a legal claim against her.
The dispute is part of a broader debate that has continued since Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race.
Biden ended his campaign on July 21, 2024, after weeks of pressure from Democrats following his June debate against Donald Trump. He endorsed Harris shortly afterward, and she became the Democratic nominee before losing the November election to Trump.
Questions about Biden’s age and his administration’s handling of concerns surrounding it continued after he left office.
Former aides, journalists and Democratic officials have subsequently offered differing accounts of how much senior officials knew and whether concerns about Biden’s condition were adequately disclosed to the public.
