Attorney General William Barr has been very busy lately getting to the bottom of the Obama administration spying on President Donald Trump’s campaign and trying to prevent him from winning the 2016 election.
Barr and the prosecutor running the investigation, John H. Durham, have shifted the probe into a criminal inquiry — meaning corrupt Obama-era officials could be held accountable.
This has already infuriated Democrats, but Barr just stunned everyone with another huge bombshell.
During an interview on Fox News’ “The Story with Martha MacCallum,” the AG said the FBI was willfully ignoring the lack of evidence to pursue the Russian collusion investigation.
This is a big deal because it proves Trump’s point that the entire Russia investigation — much like the faux Ukraine scandal — was totally baseless and fueled by partisanship.
“At the time of the comment made by [George] Papadopoulos that the Russians might have something that they would drop in the public that was adverse to Hillary [Clinton], that was during a period of rampant speculation in the media and political circles,” Barr revealed.
Barr said by the time Trump was inaugurated in January 2017, it had become clear that allegations raised against former Trump campaign associate George Papadopoulos as a result of the FBI’s Russia investigation were largely baseless.
Papadopoulos – who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI in October 2017 and served 12 days in jail last year – has said he still questions the series of events that led to him meeting with Australian diplomat Alexander Downer in London in 2016.
Papadopoulos allegedly told Downer that Russia had dirt on Hillary Clinton, prompting the diplomat to alert the FBI and trigger the counterintelligence investigation.
Barr said that innocent comment from Papadopoulos kicked off the entire Russia collusion investigation.
But when Trump was elected, the FBI knew there was no evidence or substance to the comment.
We know this is true because Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz stated in his audit that there was extreme bias against then-candidate Trump by senior members at the FBI; the FBI deliberately doctored evidence it presented to FISA court to keep spying on the Trump campaign; and there were “at least 17 significant errors or omissions” concerning FBI efforts to obtain secret FISA warrants against Page.
Papadopoulos spent 12 days in prison for lying to the FBI. How long will those responsible be in jail for misleading the public?
Things are about to get very interesting.
This also comes after the DOJ that an administrative review of the Russia investigation has shifted into a criminal inquiry.
This means that Barr and Durham now have the power to subpoena for witness testimony and documents, to convene a grand jury, and to file criminal charges.
It certainly appears that Barr and Durham have already found evidence of criminal wrongdoing regarding the FBI’s surveillance of the Trump campaign in 2016.
They wouldn’t have turned their investigation into criminal inquiry if there wasn’t evidence of Obama officials potentially breaking the law.
The president has turned the tables, and the American people will soon learn of the corrupt actions taken by Obama and his allies to take down Trump.
