Widespread near-historic inflation has become the number one issue among a vast majority of Americans heading into the 2022 midterm election, according to several recent surveys.

And most appear to be blaming the issue on President Joe Biden.

Last week, the U.S. Department of Labor announced that in June, inflation rose to a staggering 9.1 percent, driven largely by huge spikes in the cost of gasoline, diesel fuel, and food.

The Hill reported:

Inflation picked up speed in June after another surge in oil prices drove up costs throughout the economy, according to data released Wednesday by the Labor Department.

The consumer price index (CPI) rose 1.3 percent in June and 9.1 percent over the past 12 months. Economists expected monthly inflation to hit roughly 1 percent in June after prices rose 1 percent in May, and 8.8 percent annually after reaching 8.6 percent that month. Annual inflation reached the highest rate in June since November 1981.

“CPI delivered another shock, and as painful as June’s higher number is, equally as bad is the broadening sources of inflation,” said Robert Frick, corporate economist with Navy Federal Credit Union, in an analysis after the report came out last week.

“Though CPI’s spike is led by energy and food prices, which are largely global problems, prices continue to mount for domestic goods and services, from shelter to autos to apparel,” he added.

Biden dismissed the figures for his part, claiming they were “out of date.”

“Today’s data does not reflect the full impact of nearly 30 days of decreases in gas prices, that have reduced the price at the pump by about 40 cents since mid-June. Those savings are providing important breathing room for American families. And, other commodities like wheat have fallen sharply since this report,” he said.

But most Americans blame him for the spikes, especially in gas and fuel prices, which they believe are a result of his anti-fossil fuel policies enacted as soon as he took office and beyond. So much so that in the days following the release of the Labor Department’s report, “Worst President Ever” began trending on social media.

“Biden is giving Jimmy Carter a run for his money as America’s worst president,” tweeted Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez (R-Fla.) “Under Biden’s disastrous economic and energy policies, Americans are 9.1% poorer than they were a year ago.”

“Inflation just hit a 40-year high at 9.1%. Worst president in history!” another user noted on Twitter.

“Worst President in my lifetime and I lived through Carter and Obama.” another said.

“Is Joe Biden going to blame 9.1% inflation on the Republicans? This man refuses to take accountability for anything! Worst President EVER! At this point he should concede to Trump, tuck tail, and vacate the White House. He’s not fit to be President,” wrote another user.

“It’s a good day to be Jimmy Carter! He’s no longer the worst President,” former Pentagon spokesman and current WMAL radio host Chris Plante added.

“9.1% inflation after all the ‘experts’ said it “peaked” at 8.3%. The ‘experts’ are idiots and Biden’s team is full of them. No wonder he’s the worst president of modern times,” Fox News host Steve Hilton added.

Biden being the ‘worst president’ was the theme of a critical analysis by Fox News and talk radio host Dan Bongino last week.

“The man has zero political instincts and definitely doesn’t have the political instincts needed to succeed as president of the United States. For example, despite our open border crisis, you’re all watching on TV, right? The Biden administration quietly amended the language of its immigration policy to make it easier for some Afghan nationals to enter the country, even if they have ties to terrorists,” Bongino said.

“Remember how Joe dipped into our strategic oil reserves to try to help bring down the price of gas we’ve been forced to pay for months. Remember that? Well, take a look at this. More than 5 million barrels of those reserves were reportedly exported to Europe, and get this, even some to China. You got to be saying to yourself, This is clearly a mistake, nobody is this dumb,” he continued.

“No, it’s not. Now, Fox News has learned that Biden had the ability to stop the reserves from being exported, but he didn’t do it, because he has the worst political instincts you’ve ever seen and making matters worse, again, hard to believe — there’s reportedly a Hunter Biden business connection to the Chinese energy firm that got the oil. You can’t make it up. You can’t make this stuff up, folks,” Bongino added.
